Watchfulness

1 Peter 5:8 (ESV) - Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

A U.S. Army officer told of the contrast in his pupils during two different eras of teaching at the artillery training school at Fort Sill, Okla., (Home of the Field Artillery). In 1958-60 the attitude was so lax the instructors had a problem getting the men to stay awake to hear the lectures. During the 1965-67 classes. However, the men, hearing the same basic lectures, were alert and took copious notes. What made the difference in the class of 65? They knew that in less than six weeks they would be facing the enemy in Vietnam. (eSermons.com, 8-8-04)

I like this illustration because it is a great picture of how we can be spiritually.  When things are going well, and it seems like there is no threat from the enemy, we can tend to become lazy and/or bored with the things of God.  That is a dangerous place to be as it opens us up for a surprise attack from Satan's kingdom of darkness.  However, when we are in the midst of trouble/struggle, we become desirous for God to show Himself, and we become more alert to the things of God.

May we always live in the place of being alert and watchful of the enemies’ attacks.  It is better to be ready and prepared to fight rather than being surprised and unprepared to fight.

Let us all stay WATCHFUL as God's Word tells us to.

Have a Marvelous Monday!
