Diligence

Romans 12:11, 12 (HCSB) - Do not lack diligence; be fervent in spirit; serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer.

Famed educator Booker T. Washington recalled the “entrance exam” that earned him a place at the Hampton Institute in Virginia as a young man.

The head teacher ordered Washington to take a broom and sweep the classroom. Because he knew this was his chance, he swept the room three times and dusted the furniture four times. When the teacher returned, she inspected the floor closely and ran her handkerchief over the woodwork. Unable to find a speck of dust anywhere, she said, “I guess you will do to enter this institution.” Washington later said that this was the turning point of his life.

The great composer does not set to work because he is inspired, but becomes inspired because he is working. Bach, Beethoven, Wagner and Mozart settled down day after day to the job with as much regularity as an accountant settles down each day in his figures. They didn't waste time waiting for inspiration.

Ernest Newman

Are we diligently about our Father’s business? Are we diligent about our relationship with Christ and growing in Him?  Are we diligent about putting our hands to the plow that God has set before us for today?  The diligence we display before others will have a lasting impact on the diligence they take on in their lives.  Let’s be diligent examples of all that God has created us to be.

Have a Wonderful Week!
