1 John 3:17Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

17 If anyone has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need but closes his eyes to his need—how can God’s love reside in him?

The late Colonel Sanders (of Kentucky Fried Chicken) was on an airplane when an infant screamed and would not stop even though the mother and flight attendants tried every trick they could think of. Finally the Colonel asked if he could hold the baby. He gently rocked it to sleep. Later a passenger said, “We all appreciate what you did for us.”

Colonel Sanders replied, “I didn’t do it for us, I did it for the baby.”

Jesus made it clear that not only does God have compassion on sinners, but He desires that we have that same compassion. Today, as we go through our day, let’s take some time to ask that God would give us a heart of compassion for our nation. This country is so divided now more than ever it seems.  During our quiet times of prayer, may we pray that through this heart of compassion we would be moved to become a part of what God is doing to take the gospel to a hurting people in our nation and around the world. Also, Let’s pray that God’s love would abound in our hearts and that we would be moved with compassion – just as Jesus was – for sinners in need of a Savior.
